Bethany Edwards
Artist Development Lead

Bethany is a dance artist working across improvisation, performance, teaching, devising and creative facilitation.

She is a founding member of The Band That Dances, a pop-punk band working collectively to produce euphoric and riotous work. Supported by Stadt/Kanton Bern and Arts Council England their performances and commissions include V&A London, Edinburgh Fringe and The Place. In 2022 they took their debut album ‘Headliner’ – a comedic riot grrrl witchy extravaganza – on a European tour.

As a performer, Bethany has created new works with choreographers including Becky Namgauds, Tim Casson and Hannes Langolf. Touring across the UK and Europe in contexts as diverse as pubs, galleries, stately homes, theatres and high streets.

Bethany performs improvisation solo, in duets and ensembles. She is currently undertaking an ACE-funded period of development mentored by Seke Chimutengwende exploring solo improvisation.

Her teaching and facilitation work spans community and professional dance and questions the often-arbitrary boundary between these forms. She has taught for organisations including, London Contemporary Dance School, CAT schemes, and Counterpoint Dance Company. She was access co-ordinator for Critical Mass – a large-scale inclusive project developed alongside Birmingham 2022.

Bethany joined Anjali in 2019 as a Company Assistant after a short break she returned as Company Manager in 2020 co-ordinating the dancers’ training and continued development throughout the pandemic. She is excited to continue her relationship with Anjali under Alex’s leadership.
