Kavita Walia-Derbyshire

The various roles and projects that Kavita has worked on throughout her career have given her an abundance of experience within the arts.

Becoming Arts Project Coordinator for Sampad enabled Kavita to engage with the different platforms the arts has to offer, and she was also able to work on a range of dance projects.

Kavita’s time at Sampad led to her becoming Producer for two large scale outdoor events held in 2012. The first for Cultural Olympiad/Dancing for the Games (also performed for the Queens Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Torch Relay) and the second commemorating the finale of the London Olympics.

At Dancexchange, Kavita was part of the national CAT programme where she thoroughly enjoyed working with young talented dancers, aspiring to gain a profession in dance.

Kavita subsequently gained the role as Operations Manager, within this role Kavita was able to collaborate with the learning and participation department on developing the class programme, an aspect that she valued being part of as she was able to support the cultivation of how dance can reach participants and artists.

Kavita has a keen passion for the arts and becoming a trustee is an exciting opportunity for her to continue her support in sustaining the dance medium.
