Our approach
We believe that supporting independent artists is about more than creating individual opportunities. It is about changing the structures and expectations around who gets to be an artist, who gets to lead creative work and whose ideas are valued.
We aim to create meaningful opportunities for learning-disabled artists to develop their practice, build confidence and connections, and contribute to the wider cultural landscape.
Our independent artists continue to develop alongside our company productions, outreach and international work.
Work with us
We are interested in connecting with artists, producers, venues, organisations and partners who share our commitment to developing opportunities for learning-disabled artists.

Anjali supports and develops learning-disabled artists to build creative careers, develop their own artistic practices and contribute to the wider dance and cultural sector.
Alongside our main company productions, we work with artists developing their own ideas, practices and creative voices. We believe learning-disabled artists should have the opportunity not only to perform, but to shape, lead and create work on their own terms.
Our independent artist work supports artists to explore their interests, develop skills, build connections and access opportunities beyond the company. This can include creative development, mentoring, professional development, collaborations, commissions and new work.
We support artists at different stages of their practice, recognising that every artist’s journey is different.
Developing Artistic Voices
Anjali has a long history of creating opportunities for learning-disabled artists within professional dance. Our work continues to evolve to support artists to take greater ownership of their creative practice.
This includes space to:
- Develop creative ideas and projects
- Explore choreography and other creative roles
- Build professional networks and relationships
- Work with other artists and organisations
- Access training, mentoring and professional development
- Develop and share new work
- Take part in national and international opportunities
- Progress beyond traditional expectations of what a learning-disabled artist can do
We want artists to be recognised for their creativity, ambition and expertise, and to have the same opportunities to develop sustainable artistic careers as their non-disabled peers.
