Anjali Dancer Nick McKerrow Takes Creative Lead in New Solo Commission for FABRIC’s Keep Moving Programme
Anjali is pleased to share the company has been commissioned by FABRIC as part of their Keep Moving Artist Development Programme.
Company Dancer, Nick McKerrow, will be working in close collaboration with choreographer Gary Clarke, and artistic support Rachel Liggitt, to develop his leadership skills within a creative process. This follows on from Nick’s recent Developing Your Creative Practice (DYCP) award, which explored his transition from performer to choreographer.
The commission is studio-based, exploring all the aspects of creating a professional work, with Nick holding responsibility for decision making.
This will accumulate in a brand-new autobiographical solo work, which Nick aspires to tour late 2025, and the opportunity to share who he is as a leader, choreographer, and performer.
The other organisation who has been commissioned is Motionhouse, who are working with disabled choreographer Sander Verbeek, who will be shadowing Artistic Director Kevin Finnan.
The experiences of both organisations and artists will be documented in a short film, captured and produced by Kamal Macdonald. The film will advocate for and evidence the importance of opportunities like these, inspiring others to take on more ambitious change.
Keep Moving is the next phase of FABRIC’s ongoing commitment to the Critical Mass project legacy, which aims to shift perceptions of who is creatively and economically active in dance. Working with legacy funders they are realising the opportunity for disabled dancers and creatives to gain employment in professional dance companies and structures, leading activity in the regions communities and making work for the stage.
