Liam Crook – Independent Artist

Dancer and Creative

Liam Crook is a professional dance artist and member of Anjali Dance Company. As a newer member of the company, Liam is developing his experience as a performer while beginning to explore his own creative ideas and interests.

His practice is developing through performance, collaboration and opportunities to work alongside other artists, both within Anjali and through wider creative projects.

Developing a New Duet

Liam is currently developing a new duet with dance artist Will Hodson. This is Liam’s first solo-led creative project with Anjali and marks an exciting next step in his development as an independent artist.

Working collaboratively with Will, Liam is exploring ideas, movement and performance to shape a new piece of work. The project is currently in development, with the next stage planned once further time and resources are secured.

Once complete, the duet is intended to move beyond the studio and into community settings, giving Liam the opportunity to share the work with new audiences and continue developing his skills as both a performer and creative artist.

Bloodsuckers

Liam has also been part of Bloodsuckers, Anjali’s film adaptation of the acclaimed live production choreographed by Lea Anderson MBE.

Bloodsuckers brings Anjali’s dancers into a cinematic setting, combining contemporary dance, film and Anderson’s distinctive choreography. The film was commissioned by The Space Arts with funding from Arts Council England and support from Deda, and has gone on to be screened internationally.

For Liam, the project provided an opportunity to work within a professional film production and experience a different way of performing and communicating through dance.

International Exchange: com.dance, Germany

Liam also contributed to Anjali’s Cultural Bridge exchange with com.dance in Freiburg, Germany. As part of the first UK section of the exchange at De Montfort University, Liam worked alongside dancers from Anjali and com.dance to develop and share ideas through movement.

The residency explored dance as a form of non-verbal communication, bringing artists from the UK and Germany together to collaborate across language and cultural differences.

For Liam, this provided an opportunity to work with new artists and approaches, while developing his confidence as a performer and collaborator within an international creative environment.

Looking Ahead

Liam is continuing to develop his career with Anjali while taking his first steps towards a more independent creative practice.

The next stage of his duet with Will Hodson will be an important opportunity to develop the work further and explore how it can connect with audiences in community settings.

Support from funders and partners would help Liam and Will take the duet into its next stage of development. If you are interested in supporting the project or finding out more about its future, we would love to hear from you.

Anjali is excited to support Liam as he develops his own creative voice and discovers where his practice can take him.
